I saw the Wall back in the day. It was such a spectacular production from start to find. I was really close to the front but you could of been anywhere and gotten a great view of the imagery. Back then those concerts where life changing. I remember I had to sneak my camera (film() inside and then when I got it past several layers of security checkpoints, the camera didn't work. That was a disappointment at the time.

We saw a Pink Floyd concert at an outdoor baseball arena in Milwaukee in 1975.I was with 2 of my brothers and some other friends. It was the "Dark side of the Moon" tour. The arena was full, I would say about 20,000 people in the seats and they also allowed people on the grass, which is where we were. Everyone had blankets and were laying down or sitting on them. Some of the kids were on LSD, I guess, I didn't know what that was at the time but I assume that is why they were acting so crazy. One kid fell on top of us while we were watching the concert. Lots of people were smoking pot. Well anyway the band was really good and they had lots of special effects. But the most amazing part came when they performed the song Dark side of the Moon. It had been a cloudy night and by this time it was dark. Just as they began singing "see you on the dark side of the moon" the clouds moved away and the full moon was visible. People started cheering like crazy. It was like it was supposed to happen as part of their show! I told people about it for years afterwards.

In 1975 Pink Floyd released a film in quadraphonic/surround sound. My girlfriend and I went to the Alhambra Theatre on Geary Street, in San Francisco to watch the film. At the time I was bussing tables at a resturant in Sausalito called the Trident. If I hadn't seen the film a few weeks before I probably would not have been able to identify a group of customers that were having lunch on the Trident's deck one afternoon. I had the good fortune to not only wait on their table, but they actually asked me to join them, and drink some wine.
After my shift, my girlfriend (Ellen Beutner)and I purchased some Pink Floyd tickets from a scalper on the College of Marin campus in Kentfield.
From there we headed out to the Cow Palace in the Daly City neighborhood of San Francisco in a 1957 Morris Minor convertable. Amazingly the car found it's way to the concert and back without breaking down...a trait I knew too well, but we rolled the dice and the car successfully completed the journey.
The concert was a blend of their newly released album and movie "Wish You Were Here" that morphed into the "Dark Side of the Moon" towards the second half of the show. Pink Floyd played in the shadows beneath a large circular movie screen that displayed incredible images and film throughout the show.
Pink Floyd attracted an unusual audience that would be almost impossible to describe. Pot was being freely smoked throughout the show, and there appeared to be quite a few people there who might of been more "elevated"...so to speak.
The show had been set up quadrophonically (surround sound) with speakers set up on stage, in back, and on both sides of the Cow Palace. The sound was incredible. I remember nudging towards the center of the Cow Palace with Ellen, to get the full effect during the Dark Side of the Moon portion of the show.
If your familiar with the Dark Side of the Moon album you'll remember when a chorus of black female voices reaches a cresendo...at this precise moment, an amazingly loud sound came rumbling forth from the rear ceiling of the Cow Palace. As most heads turned towards the rear of the Cow Palace to see what was going on, a World War II airplane (that had somehow been rigged so no one had seen it/and attached to wires) came flying above everyone's heads (and looked to be on fire!) from the rear of the Cow Palace into the massive circular movie screen on stage, and appeared to explode!
This is possibly my most memorable moment at any concert I had ever attended, including Woodstock. Some people (who were possibly too "elevated") went running for the exits. Everyone else seem to be in a state of shock and awe. I was truly pleased. The music through the surround sound system, the visuals, the airplane, and explosions were over the top! Amazing! Spectacular!
You never know what life has in store for you. I had no idea that when I went to work that day who'd I run into, and that I'd be going to a show later that night. Expect change, and life will never disapoint you...all the best!
